Angela Jollivette, also known as DJ Moonbaby throughout the entertainment industry has been on the scene for several years as an entrepreneur connecting her corporation Moonbaby Entertainment to key clients and brands. A sought after DJ, music lifestyle consultant, and night life manager; Moonbaby Entertainment’s long list of clients range from The Recording Academy, Sony Music, J Records, GOTV and Garth Trinidad Sound. Whether Moonbaby is producing live events, spinning hot tracks or developing business opportunities for her clients, she is focused on building a multi-media empire. Music being her first love is her motivation to becoming a major staple in the evolution of the music business and technology.
From the time she played her first record, Stevie Wonder’s “Hotter than July” on her pre-school’s Fisher Price, Moonbaby knew music would be a huge influence in her life. Growing up listening to select radio stations in Los Angeles, she developed a keen ear for her musical selection and taste. The name Moonbaby simply means that she is musically intuitive. Moonbaby speaks through her music as a writer would through poetry. DJ Moonbaby has her own style and unique blend of Down-Tempo, Urban Alternative, Gospel, Soul, R&B and Hip Hop. Exposing good music that deserves to be heard is her #1 goal. Starting out as a DJ and Promoter was just the beginning for this cutting edge businesswoman.
After leaving Magic Johnson Enterprises in 2002, Angela established Moonbaby Entertainment to host a variety of events in partnership with Soul Folks Cafe, a trendy soul food eatery in Downtown LA. This relationship developed into a branding opportunity to produce exclusive corporate and entertainment events in a secluded 10,000 sq. ft space titled The Moonbar located in the heart of L.A.’s Art & Fashion District. Hosting events for clients such as Hidden Beach Recordings, A Tribe Called Quest, Rita Marley, KCRW & KPFK radio and more. Successful operation of The Moonbar has lead to a long-term partnership with Soul Folks Café. A new upscale soul food restaurant and performance lounge development in Hollywood’s Time Square called SOUL is slated to open 2010. Moonbaby Entertainment is a key partner in making sure that SOUL becomes one of L.A.’s most desirable hot spots.
A member of NABFEME (National Association of Black Female Executives In Music and Entertainment) & NARAS (National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences); Moonbaby was invited to be a part of The Recording Academy screening board for the Urban Alternative, R&B and Hip Hop categories for the 49th Grammy Awards. Little did she know the following year she would be conducting her own committees for the 50th thru 52nd Grammy Awards Gospel category. Now esteemed with the position of Gospel Manager in the Awards department at The Recording Academy, this is another confirmation that all of her hard work is paying off.
